Advocating for OUR RIGHTS

Founded in 1974, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) is the first legal rights organization on the East Coast serving Asian Americans. We were founded by a group of lawyers, law students and community activists who believed that the law should be used as a tool to achieve social and economic justice for Asian Americans and all Americans.

We believe that the laws in this country should be applied equally, regardless of race or ethnicity. We also believe that every American has a right and an obligation to be involved in the communities where she or he lives and works. Our aim is to build an informed and active Asian America that is involved in the civic life of this country.

Are you a concerned Asian/Asian American who is fed up with how Asians are viewed in the American entertainment industry? Then you have come to the right place. This web site was designed with you in mind. There are many other things out there that are offensive to Asians/Asian Americans, Chink Steaks and Abercrombie & Fitch just to name a few. This site, however, is designed to deal just with media and entertainment industry issues since we have several actors/actresses working behind the scenes on our staff.

Chinese-American HISTORY

The Museum of Chinese in the Americas (MoCA) is the first fulltime, professionally staffed museum dedicated to reclaiming, preserving, and interpreting the history and culture of Chinese and their descendants in the Western Hemisphere .

Chinese-American CULTURE & ART

Founded in 1973, the New York Chinese Cultural Center is a community based arts organization that nurtures, teaches, and preserves the traditional Chinese performing arts for present and future generations of Chinese-Americans, while introducing Chinese dance, music, and visual arts to audiences throughout the United States. Through performances, workshops, lecture-demonstrations, classes, and recordings, NYCCC creates a focus for community pride and inspiration, builds bridges to other communities, and promotes knowledge and appreciation of Chinese arts and culture.

A4's mission is to engage the greater public in the support, recognition and appreciation of Asian American arts, while ensuring that Asian American arts organizations thrive.

Second, we provide a national forum on issues important to Asian Pacific Americans. As the only English-language, pan-ethnic national newsweekly, AsianWeek helps to set the agenda for Asian Pacific America. In all of our coverage and commentary, we seek to place news in a context that is relevant to our readers.

Lastly, we seek to involve Asian Pacific Americans in the American democratic experiment. We believe that an informed electorate is the key to a healthy democracy and we aggressively advocate a more active role in the political process. Further, by reporting on the struggles for personal and political empowerment and on the other issues of special interest to our readers, we help to define the priorities of the national Asian Pacific American community and create a stronger political voice among all Asian Pacific Americans.

SOCIAL SERVICES in NY Chinatown

Initiated as a grass roots community effort in 1965 in response to the growing number of

Asian immigrants in New York City following the liberalization of the immigration law,

the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) has since become one of the largest

providers of social services for Asian Americans in the United States. In pursuing our

mission, CPC has developed, and continues to administer, a wide range of services for

Chinese-American children, youth, adults, and senior citizens

Chinatown Manpower Project, Inc. (CMP) provides vocational training, employment services, educational programs and economic development opportunities to disadvantaged Asian Americans and refugees living in New York City. In collaboration with public and private funding sources, CMP helps individuals of all ages-from children to seniors-increase their opportunities to succeed in their new environment.

The New York Asian Women's Center works with women and children whose lives are affected by domestic violence, to enable them to live safe and independent lives. As the first domestic violence organization to serve Asian communities in New York City, and one of the first in the nation, the Center recognizes that ending violence is a systematic issue and cannot be solved on an isolated, individual level. By helping women and children end violence at home, and at the same time, bringing domestic violence to the forefront of the Asian community's consciousness, the New York Asian Women's Center serves as a vehicle for placing the concerns of Asian women and children on the agenda for community change.

Immigrant Social Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of youth and families in the Greater Chinatown and Lower East Side communities.

We offer extensive after-school and summer camp programs to approximately 800 children in the Chinatown / Lower East Side neighborhoods. To protect and promote the rights of Asian Americans, other of color, and all those in need through advocacy for and access to resources in the areas of affordable housing, economic development, and social services; to sustain through such initiative the vitality of the City for the benefit of its broad spectrum of residents; to empower and unite people in order to further the growth and stability of our communities through a collaborative effort; and to foster greater understanding, harmony, and cooperation within and among diverse organizations, races, and ethnic groups.

The Chinatown Partnership was formed in 2006 to bring residents, business owners and

community groups together to rebuild Chinatown following 9/11, and to preserve the

neighborhood's unique culture while ensuring its vitality in the future.

Through a broad range of programs, the Chinatown Partnership engages the community

and leads efforts to improve the neighborhood’s physical environment through the Clean

Streets initiative, streetscape improvements, enhanced lighting and Wayfinding projects.

To attract visitors to the neighborhood, Chinatown Partnership hosts events for people of

all age.  Innovative events like Taste of Chinatown and Lunar Stages are instilling pride

while drawing new generations of visitors from near and far.  Explore Chinatown, an

award-winning marketing campaign, is connecting Chinatown to the world through the

web and welcoming the world to Chinatown by shining a spotlight on the neighborhood’s

    cultural riches and myriad attractions.

With the rebirth of Lower Manhattan, including projects such as the Calavatra Path

Station and the 9/11 Memorial, Chinatown is in a unique position to be an integral

    partner with its neighbor.

Chinatown Partnership further seeks to attract public and private investment, advocate

for a fair share of government services and create a dynamic and diverse 24/7

    neighborhood.

Recognizing that the future begins with today’s vision, Chinatown Partnership

challenges the community to imagine, and bring into reality, its vision for Manhattan’s

    Chinatown in the 21st Century.

The Asian American Federation's mission is to advance the civic voice and well-being of

Asian Americans. We collaboratively foster philanthropy in the community, undertake

research to inform policies, and provide support to community service organizations.

About NY CHINATOWN

Since 1998, ChinatownNYC.com continues to provide tourists and visitors to Chinatown , NYC, with simple and relevant information towards their journey.

We now live in the information age. So much can be learned through the Internet. But the web is vast and lonely. For this reason........

NYCHINATOWNcom, home based in New York City United States, was invented by a group of professionals in its field, (Management Team) who shared the common interest of bringing together the strengths of business between China and US as well as other countries.

AsianWeek is the national English-language newsweekly for the rapidly growing Asian Pacific American community. Our mission is threefold.

First, we seek to chronicle the Asian Pacific American experience. From the most recently arrived immigrants to leaders in American society, from life on the streets of Chinatown to deal making in the halls of power, and from achievements in business and academics to influences on pop culture, AsianWeek reports on the people, the events, and the ideas that shape not only Asian American society, but the dominant culture as well.
